I don't care for the changes to the nacelles but it's an excellent model.  Of course, the name and registry come from "Operation Retrieve" in ST6. ;)

A few new renders, with what I hope is improved lighting technique:

The Dreadnaught, USS FEDERATION, NCC-2100, from the Starfleet Technical Manual by Franz Joseph. Used with permission.

The USS HIPPOCRATES, SFM-1001, Medical Frigate.

The USS KELVIN, NCC-514, Heavy Destroyer Class. In the prime universe, this ship was upgraded from an older design (See Star Trek 2009) and was the first command of Captain Willard Decker (See Starship Saladin).

I love the renders but may I offer a suggestion.  The lighting that you used on the Kelvin use it on the Dreadnout and see what it looks like.  There are a few shots that look spot on with the Kelvin to the lighting that they used on the model for the original series.  I just wish I had the skills to do this.  I envy you guys.  Perhaps you can suggest some training materials or programs that can be used to do such things.

I agree with you.  I have the ambient light too high on the Dreadnaught.  I'll fix it.

Meanwhile....

Here's Brian Tubbs, aka Saladin's science officer, Xonac, in action:

It's called "Major Cache" and it is from DAZ productions.  I like it because it is close to the HALO armor, which is readily available if I need to suit up actors.  I can modify it to make it less HALO and more MACO, which is the plan.  Since it's a fan film, it should be okay.

Anyhow, the actual 3d armor isn't from HALO at all, though it's probably inspired by it.

I was just messing with you.  ;)  For a fan film, it's definitely acceptable.  After all, you've gotta go with what's available.  I've seen Star Wars objects and interiors used in Trek animated fan films.  (among other stuff)

Don't worry, I'm not going to turn Star Trek into a Star Wars/HALO shooter.  I just want the Starfleet Marines (MACOs) to have some cool gear that actually would protect them in a vacuum or in ground combat on the RARE occasions we will have battles of that nature.  One thing I actually do have are Saladin MACO insignia patches.  So there will probably be a live action film that will feature them somewhere down the road.  But they aren't the focus of Saladin, just a feature that differentiates them from the Exploration Division of Starfleet.  Destroyers are in the Military Division.  In this particular instance, I'm following the FASA designations of fleet operations.  We have redshirts on the Saladin, but they are Engineers and support division personnel.  There are still shipboard security teams that wear redshirts, but typically they are not on the same kinds of missions as the MACO's.  Enterprise (the series) is a little closer to the way Saladin does things, operationally speaking.  But our MACO teams are a large part of our crew on the Saladin.  We do law enforcement, anti-piracy, Federation security and Defensive/Offensive operations, occasionally for groups like Starfleet Intelligence and Section 31 on VERY rare occasions.  The Final Frontier does get explored by the Saladin, but not as often, and more often by circumstance than being assigned on exploratory missions.

The Enterprise and her sister ships handle the bulk of the kinds of missions fans are used to seeing in Star Trek.  I wanted to do something that is usually 'offscreen' from the mainstream Trek, but we can infer that a lot of it goes on.   That way, I can tell stories that are not clones of other fan films and have something that is different, yet, hopefully complementary in a good way to other efforts out there that I very much admire.  :)

I really like the direction you are going.  I've enjoyed what you have posted so far and look forward to more.  How does one go about learning how to create those ships like you do?  I figured I would ask you as I enjoy the look of what you are creating.
