Dyno, yes, there's dozens of cast members for "The Night the Stars Fell from the Sky." It was an amazingly difficult logistical nightmare. We shot literally nearly every weekend from May until September 2010 with additional shooting in October and November.

Ken, a LOT of cats in the Florida Keys are polydactyls, often having extra toes. Hemingway's house is filled with them.  Still, our approach with Kim's extra (real) ears will be of the blurred out approach that is almost unnoticeable when the effect is applies.

I'm delighted with the progress on "Night the Stars Fell from the Sky," "Duty Bound," "The Devil in the Details" and "Archway" by RH Barr, Bill Walker, Bob Reed/Mark Brennan and Rick Foxx. Some fantastic work's being done. Here's a sample of what Bill's working on...

Not any where near finished though. Still want to color correct a few things. Crop the soffit out of the shot. Add a digital camera shake. And that's just the VFX...

One last video effect shot from "Duty Bound" -- courtesy of Bill Walker

Trying to provide glimpses of the work being done now without giving much away.

Cool effects (again.)  I especially like the light cast off from the phaser beams on the hull.  ;D

Thanks!  Ever since I saw the remastered version of "Balance of Terror" with the reflections of the "proximity phasers" on the hull, I thought that all of the energy weapons should light their surroundings like that.  I'm glad I had the opportunity to do it myself for a production!  :groucho:

I'm looking forward to doing the rest of the VFX for this episode.  I'd like to say more, but I'm not about to spoil the plot!

Isn't it nice when you get to do things that make you happy?  :)  I agree on that effect for remastered BoT, I saw that and thought it looked great also.  I think it adds a nice sense of realism to the weapon effect.  After all, these are powerful, intense energy beams being fired.  The reflection reinforces that and makes them look even more menacing.

The reflection also reinforces the appearance that the beam/torpedo/whatever is really there with the ship, not keyed in after-the-fact.  That's what struck me the most when I first saw that effect.  We all know it's not real, but the better the illusion the more apt we are to immerse ourselves in the story.

And yep, it's great to do things that make me happy!  Now if I can just find a job that will pay me to do the things that make me happy (I would settle for a job that pays me period... still looking...)

A once populated planet is now uninhabited, and the only clue is an archway in the middle of a town square. A landing party from the Potemkin has beamed down to investigate.

This 6 min 46 sec vignette stars Doug Harper, Hannah Ruiz, Richard Thornton and Jeffrey Green. It was directed by Doug Harper and edited by Rick Foxx. Music by Tony Lunn and script by David Eversole.
