Here's my FaceBook story....
I joined, probably for the same reason Alec did, never really intending to use it. Immediately they suggested I might want to be "friends" with one of my best friends in college I had not seen for maybe 20 years. Neither one of us could believe it was the other person. We're back to being friends again.
Within a couple days I was back hanging out with my summer friend from high school, and the person I chose to go to college with in the first place.
I friend anyone that asks. If their constant posts about German Shepards become annoying, I just change the settings so their posts don't show up on my wall. My settings are to never email me anytime anyone does anything. I get no spam.
After my husband suddenly lost his job, the unemployment ended, our savings got spent, I ended up backed against a wall, facing electric shut off and eviction....and I moaned about it on FaceBook just because I had nothing else to do to relieve my stress. Complete strangers and aquaintances filled my bank account within two days. I never asked for help. I certinaly didn't ask for money. (and, yes, it was people I barely knew, not friends, that came to my rescue.)
I am currently putting on a benefit for a baby that lives in a rural town near me who is facing daunting medical problems. Star Trek fans from around the world are now on the baby's "page" and following his progress, praying for him, and supporting the family through their difficulties. Some of them have sent donations to the benefit. In addition, donations of items to raffle at the benefit are arriving like Christmas presents on nearly a daily basis. Stuff I was never told was coming from people I have no idea how they found out about it. Chuck Norris. Jeff Dunham. Stephen Collins. Wayne Watson. From people that I have to look up still because I don't know who they are. Casting Crowns. Ian Patrick. Too many more to list... Well, yes, I know how they found out about it.
They saw my posts on FaceBook.
Sometimes I deactivate my account so I can just disappear for a few days. But I come back...cause I don't have any complaints about FaceBook....I control my experience with it and that is key. (okay, my only problem is people taking joke status updates seriously, and thinking every single word I post is about Phase II...but that happens in real life too. LOL)
