Star Trek: Into Darkness -- Trailer Speculation

While I realize there are a lot of people here who aren't interested in the new movie, there are some who are.  The recently posted trailer raises some interesting questions.

What do you think?



Gary Mitchell? We'll find out soon....  In my opinion, he fits this far better than Khan.  It doesn't mean it isn't Khan, but Gary Mitchell was already left for dead on Delta Vega in the tie-in comics, so this isn't a huge stretch.  The girl could be Elizabeth Dehner, or she could be Carol Marcus.

The plot synopsis released from Paramount says that the crew of the Enterprise deals with a threat from within Starfleet.  So, that rules out Khan, as he was never in Starfleet.  However, I prefer not to speculate.  It could be Mitchell, (it could be Garth of Izar ) or maybe they'll even surprise everyone and go with a new bad guy.   After all, the villain in the last film was a completely new character.

Besides, in that comic, Mitchell dies, like he did in WNMHGB.  I have no idea if they're going to even consider what was done in the comic, or ignore it entirely, as has typically been done in Star Trek.

This would make the blonde in the trailer Christine Chapel.

As I understand it, there is an important actor not being shown at all - can't remember his name. Maybe he's playing Ruk and we would all recognize him at once.

Peter Weller is playing a starship captain in this, perhaps one we know, perhaps not.  Could be Garth of Izar or Ron Tracy or who knows who?  But we could have Gary Mitchell steering a young medtech named Carol Marcus Kirk's way early in the film, and the missing man formation for returning from the mission where they left Gary for dead, with Kirk giving a eulogy for him, when he shows up to his own funeral service....

It COULD be interesting.  I wonder how close to the mark this is?

   Well... good or bad, whether you like the JJ stuff or not, at least Paramount is throwing up something 'STAR TREK-ish' onto the screen. Also, at least we're still allowed to play ST by continuing the prime timeline. My two cents worth.                             -Michael in Az.

Yep.  And that's mighty nice of them to let us, isn't it?  I'll continue to go to the movies, if for no other reason to support the hand that let's us play in the sandbox and is rather nice to us to let us do it.  I know it's not the same Star Trek, but I will go see it and give it a chance.

This is the 2nd movie of this series. Does this scene remind you of a scene from the 2nd movie of the first series?



I'm guessing it is Spock and Pike. Pike is inside the chamber getting a good dose of delta rays. Maybe they are even on board the ship that we see crash into the ocean?

Some 'The Hobbit' movies will be showing a first 9 minute preview of Into Darkness at selected IMAX theatres. Hopefully they will reveal who the mystery villain is or give some foundation to who he definitely is.

From what I know about the first nine minutes after going to rumour sites and from the trailer the Enterprise may do something not seen in the original movies, without spoiling things with specifics. But it's all fun and games. Most of the gossip is mere speculation at this point so I'll reserve proper judgement after viewing the film proper.
