It's covered in several threads over several years.....beginning with a hard drive crashing as it was being backed up and potentially destroying half the footage of the episode. There has been one technical difficulty after another since..

Thank you for the reply, I wasn't aware that this all started from a disk crash. I did do a search on the forum to see if I could find out what happened to this episode, but didn't see anything about the hardware failure.  I did see threads that talked about an unofficial release that I was also unaware of.  Now I understand more about some of the negative chatter I've seen... and we'll leave it at that.

I am curious, though, were you able to recover the data from the hard drive? Was the footage actually lost? I work in IT, and have had to do a fair amount of data recovery from crashed hard drives. Worst case is when you have to ship the drives to a place in Canada that has a clean room, and they take them apart and recover the data to the tune of about $1000/drive.

You should be able to find threads asking for help to pay for recovering the drive, and then thanking the company profusely..... if I remember correctly we found the place to do it in September.

This was the same type of place....though the price was more to the tune of several thousand dollars. (Probably because of the size of the drive and the kind of data.) And, yes, they were able to recover all of it.

And then the issue with transcoding it all so we could use it began.

Then fixing the transcoding that was done wrong.

Then....

Count me in on that one. Hearing about your production of this story is what finally brought me to these forums after having seen a few episodes. I had actually thought there were other problems, I didn't realize it was technical/IT related. I am glad it turned out to be this, even if it was expensive to fix.

Nobody listens to me (grin).  But I've often suggested the "Scotty" approach to release predictions.  For example, if they plan to release it in June (2 months from now), they should tell people it would be released in December (8 months from now):

ADMIRAL KIRK -- Mr. Scott, have you always multiplied your repair estimates by a factor of four?
SCOTTY -- Certainly, sir.  How else can I keep my reputation as a miracle worker?

That way, if it comes out anytime before December, the post-production people will be regarded as miracle workers.  They're that anyway (grin).  But such a policy would seal the deal.

It's great it's going to be released in the "spring", but when you guys write something like that, it'll really be a great help, if you could also tell us a bit about what year it'll be. Spring 2013 and Spring 2014 is not the same, and that tiny little bit of information, could really helpful to your fans.

If you only knew what we have run into in trying to get it done
progress is being made and we are now working on the final acts
there is an OCT relesase date on IMDB and that is a good possibility at this point

I liked the opening, will be happy to see the whole when it comes out. I'm not worried about the date, just means we'll likely have a shorter gap between episodes after Kitumba.
