First, in case you missed it, I did reply to your other topic about the developmentally disabled kid playing high school basketball:

Now ... to big bands.  Other than the links you've already been given, you might want to check out this 2009 article, too:

http://www.examiner.com/article/big-band-music-gaining-popularity-move-over-hip-hop

It involves the popularity of big band music in the U.K. ... but with a twist.

Thank You, I tryed and did not find what I was looking for and one of the sites here did come up the others are new so I have them on my list.

Now to see if the board will listen to me. Not looking for a twist want to keep it as pure as I can.

About the only Big Band type band I knew of was the one Johnny Crawford leads. and  it dose well but then he has name poeple know.

And yes Alex I saw it and swore I had answered, my post must be off in cyber space, as I know ,I'm 98 % sure I hit post. but would not be the first time here or any other site I thought I hit the right spot and it did not come up, well yuku can be fickle some days.

Thanks again.

If you're looking for a dispassionate ranking of big-band popularity (names of existing bands and their market popularity) as well as popularity of the "genre" in general, there's probably only one definitive source - Billboard Magazine.  If you Google this:

billboard "big band music" (use quotation marks around "big band music")

You'll notice a number of pages dealing with big-band music.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that when I tried the links, they all resolved to a generic "top 100" page.  I suspect that's Billboard's way of saying you have to "pay" for access to that data.  How much, I don't know.

Thank you Alex.

I think I have what I need now I found out there are  festivals for Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Charlie Park, to name a few,Oh and Bix Biederbeck who use to play with the same band as Peter  ( Nick Barkley) Breck's father back in the day they just had a big deal for him a few years ago. I let Peter know.

The town is always looking for something that will bring people in for the field days I want to lay it out  why not do one promoting the Band Leader who was born and raised in their town. ( wonder how many even know this) I just needed to show that others had things going on for them, and just because they are in a sense in the boondocks dose not mean they could not take advantage of the fact. heck the town in Ohio  is saying they are where Kirk will be born at least  this has happened.

Besides I know big band/swing music as well as I do the 50's 60's and some of the 70's..I could get into this. esp if we could find some people who know how to do the dances of the time.. I know asking a lot but what can they say ,but *Are you nuts* yep but a good kind of nuts lol

This may fly better then my last idea which I know would have brought in people esp females *my * age...  All I wanted was for them to have Randy Mantooth come and speak on being an EMT  I know there would have been a run on the females attending.

So all I need now is the day and time of meeting and be prepared for them to say NO!

Thanks both of you for the help.

You can't please all people.  But, if they don't like the big-band idea, you could also suggest a hip-hop festival (inviting performers specializing in explicit lyrics) or a music and dance festival featuring the Chippendales. 8)

I'll bet the thought of a big-band festival would sound a lot better after those suggestions, hehehe.  Good luck.
