I am not related to either project, just a fan. With that I revel in the fact of more good Star Trek. I would hope that in the spirit of ST there are no feuds and both productions Live Long and Prosper.
Now, as to the productions... I think that STC and STP2 are both among the best I have seen, but to be honest both very different. You can easily see the directorial style difference starting with the aspect ratio. To a large degree, from one viewer's perspective, I think that STP2 has modernized trek quiet a bit. Very different directions, shorter camera holds, 16x9 which allows the actors to frame differently on screen, and modernized ship movements and effects. This is how ST would probably have been if it evolved forward to today. This has made for some great ST.
STC on the other hand has kept the 4x3, and recreated the directorial style which is nice to see as well (actors standing closer together, etc.) Older 60s style camera angles, and even the effects are (modernized) but consistent with how you would see the ship if this was season 4. I loved the seeing the Enterprise approach the Realm with the shot above the nacelles.... It reminded me of the Enterprise approaching K-7. I also really loved the shot of the Enterprise leaving orbit at the end as it would be exactly that wan if this was in 1970. I did not however like the opening credits visually, and I thought Vic's "Space the final frontier..." was a bit weak.
That said, the episode was excellent and I can't wait to see more from both production teams. If we could get two episodes from each per year, that is 4 new ST episodes per year and I'll take it!!!!! Better than JJ Trek any day.
Now if only we could get CBS to officially endorse both efforts and let Netflix fund it we could get more.
Nice job to both crews.
