Collecting certain sci fi movies from the 70s and 80s.
« on: July 15, 2013, 11:49:25 am »
I just recently purchased a VHS copy of westworld from amazon and then got a DVD copy of LOGAN'S RUN(the movie)from a local FYE,and they're both quite good.

I'm also considering getting either a vhs or dvd copy of the following for my collection. Buckaroo Banzai, beastmaster(the first and only truly real to me.)red Sonja and one classic from the 70s which has got me interested called ROLLERBALL.

As well as another movie I saw when I was a kid called DRAGONSLAYER.

If anyone here knows of any truly rare and underrated or amazing sci fi movies from the 70s and 80s to add to one's media library, please feel free to comment.

Sword and the Sorcerer was fun on the big screen. (I saw the original theatrical release.)

I would also look for Hawk the Slayer if you can possibly find it, it's arguably the best such movie of the era.

How about "It Came From Outer Space"  (1953)  A classic and also not too campy for it's age. What about Tremors, Tron, Genesis II - Planet Earth,  and The Questor Tapes? Night of the Comet also comes to mind if you like bad 80's hair styles  :)

Thanks for the replies on that one,but I was specifically requesting sci fi movies from the 70s and 80s not further back from that.
I do have tron, and saw planet earth once(it was okay.)and questor tapes? I'll look into that one. And yeah tremors was okay, but I wish I could say the same for the sequels, ugh.

I saw some of night of the comet awhile back, wasn't too impressed it.

I once misread an announcement about the "Muppets  Wizard of Oz" as "The Muppets Zardoz"  :hyst: ( which would have been a much more entertaining remake ;D)

I can't believe no one has mentioned probably the ultimate all-star cast 80's sci-fi movie:-

"The Aventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension"
